An Overview of the Issue
Recently, my experience with a dual boot system of Windows 11 and Kali Linux took an unexpected turn following the rollout of the cumulative Windows update KB5035853. Unlike standard updates, this ‘cumulative’ one seemed to defy the logic of my well-tuned system. After each installation attempt, Windows would insist on restarting, attempt to finalize the installation, and then proceed with two additional restarts, all to no avail.
Ignore the update? That’s not a viable option. Current Windows systems persist in installing cumulative updates, leading to repeated restarts and failures that disrupt the daily use of my PC.
Faced with this deadlock, acceptance was not an answer. It was time to find a solution. In this article, I share with you the troubleshooting journey I undertook to overcome the challenges of cumulative updates in dual boot, to help you avoid the same pitfalls and optimize your system for flawless operation.
